## Cat Rescue explained, what it is and when you need it
Cats are very good at climbing up trees and far less good at getting back down. Their claws curve the wrong way for a head-first descent, so a frightened cat will often sit on a branch and cry rather than risk it.

Ladders rarely reach, and climbing after a cat without the right kit puts both of you at risk. Our climbers work at height every day, so they can reach the branch your cat is on, secure it in a padded rescue bag and lower it down under control.

Ring Daniel with where the tree is and roughly how high your cat is, and we'll tell you honestly when we can get to you within our working hours of 6am to 10pm.

### Who this service is for

- Pet owners, whose cat has climbed a garden or street tree and cannot get back down.
- Neighbours, who have spotted a cat stuck high in a tree and want it brought down safely.
- Landlords and managing agents, dealing with a stuck cat in a tree on a property they look after.
## What happens if it's left

### A tired cat can fall
The longer a cat clings on, the more tired, cold and frightened it gets. A tired cat is more likely to slip from height than climb down.

### Home ladders put people at risk
Leaning a ladder against a tree and reaching out for a frightened animal is a common way for people to fall and get hurt.

### A frightened cat may climb higher
Shouting, shaking branches or trying to grab it can send a cat further up onto thinner branches, making the rescue harder.

### Mistakes we see most often

- Climbing the tree yourself without ropes or a harness.
- Shaking the branch or throwing things to make the cat jump.
- Crowding round the base of the tree, which can frighten the cat further up.
- Asking someone without tree climbing experience to go up after it.
## How we do it, our five-step process

- Step 1

### Ring Daniel
Tell us where the tree is, how high your cat is and how long it has been up there, so we can plan the climb.

- Step 2

### We look at the tree
On arrival the climber checks the tree and picks a safe route up to the branch your cat is on.

- Step 3

### A calm, roped climb
The climber goes up on ropes and harness, moving slowly so your cat is not pushed further out onto thin branches.

- Step 4

### Into the rescue bag
Your cat is gently secured in a padded rescue bag that clips to the climber's harness, so it cannot wriggle free.

- Step 5

### Back to the ground
The climber comes back down under control and hands your cat back to you.

## What you get out of it

### Qualified climbers
The crew work at height every day and hold all relevant certificates.

### Proper rescue kit
Ropes, harnesses and a padded rescue bag rather than a ladder and a hopeful grab.

### One call, one price
Ring Daniel with the details and you will know the price before anyone sets off.

### Fully insured
Public liability cover up to £5 million, details available on request.

## Cat Rescue in detail

### Why cats get stuck in trees
A cat's claws are built for gripping on the way up. Coming down head first means the claws point the wrong way, and many cats never learn to reverse down a trunk. Chasing a bird or escaping a dog can send a cat far higher than it would ever choose to go.

### What you can do while you wait
Keep people and other pets back from the tree, leave some food at the base and stay calm and quiet. Some cats will come down on their own once things settle. If yours doesn't, ring us.

- Keep dogs and children away from the base of the tree.
- Do not climb the tree or lean a ladder against it.
- Note roughly how high your cat is and which side of the tree it is on.

## Cat Rescue, your questions answered

### Do you rescue cats from trees?
Yes. One of our climbers goes up on ropes, secures the cat in a padded rescue bag and brings it back down.

### How quickly can you get to me?
It depends on where we are working that day. Ring Daniel and he will give you an honest answer. We work 6am to 10pm, seven days, but do not run a 24/7 call-out.

### How much does a cat rescue cost?
There is no fixed price list. Ring Daniel with the details and he will tell you the price before we set off.

### Will you damage the tree?
The aim is to reach your cat with the tree left as it was. If anything needs cutting to reach it safely, Daniel will talk it through with you first.

### Which areas do you cover?
Knowsley, Liverpool, St Helens and West Lancashire, including the towns listed on our areas page.

### Should I wait before calling?
Some cats come down by themselves once things are quiet. If yours is still stuck, or seems distressed, ring us rather than trying to climb up yourself.
