## Tree Removals explained, what it is and when you need it
Tree removal is the complete dismantling of a tree, from the crown down to the base, and then the decision of what happens to the stump. On an open plot a tree can sometimes be felled in one piece. In a Merseyside back garden, with a conservatory on one side, a fence panel on the other and a neighbour's greenhouse over the boundary, that is rarely an option. Almost every removal we carry out is sectional: a climber works up through the crown, takes the limbs off in manageable pieces, lowers them on ropes, and then rings the stem down in sections small enough to control.

Daniel has been doing this work for fifteen years, trained in arboriculture at Myerscough College, holds City & Guilds Level 3 in Arboriculture plus all relevant certificates held by Daniel and the team members, and runs the job on site rather than sending a crew and staying in the office. The regular team is Daniel plus two lads, with an extra qualified climber brought in when the tree is big enough to warrant a second person in the canopy.

The part most people underestimate is the clear-up. Everything that comes off the tree is fed through the chipper where it stands and taken away for biomass recycling; nothing goes to landfill, and that clearance is part of the job rather than an extra line on the bill. Customers tell us the giveaway is the ground: no ruts, no sawdust trail down the hall, no pile of brash left behind the shed for someone else to deal with.

### Who this service is for

- Homeowners, A tree that has outgrown the garden, blocks the light from the back of the house, drops onto a conservatory roof or is lifting a drive, path or drain run.
- Landlords and agents, Trees flagged on a survey, a homebuyer's report or an insurance letter that need dealing with quickly and documented properly.
- Businesses and site managers, Car parks, yards, boundaries and development plots where a tree is in the way of access, works or sightlines.
- Neighbours in dispute, Overhanging or boundary trees where the right answer is a straight assessment of what can legally be done, not a chainsaw at eight in the morning.
## What happens if it's left

### Small defects become structural failures
A split fork, a fungal bracket at the base or a cavity in the stem does not improve with time. Wood decays from the inside, so a tree that looks full and healthy in leaf can be holding very little sound timber at the point where it matters. The first high wind after that point decides the outcome for you, and it rarely chooses a convenient direction.

### The bill grows with the damage
Removing a tree in a controlled way is a planned job. Removing the same tree after it has come down across a garage roof, a fence line or a car is a bigger, slower and more awkward one, with a repair bill attached and an insurance claim behind it. The tree costs the same to cut; everything around it does not.

### Roots keep working after you stop looking
Trees left too close to a house, drive or drainage run keep expanding. Lifted flags, cracked tarmac and blocked drains are usually the visible end of a root problem that has been developing quietly for years, and they are far more expensive to put right than the removal would have been.

### Mistakes we see most often

- Hiring on price alone from someone with no arboricultural qualification, no NPTC chainsaw tickets and no public liability cover.
- Assuming no permission is needed; a Tree Preservation Order or Conservation Area designation applies to the tree, not to who owns it.
- Topping a tree instead of removing it, which leaves weak regrowth on a decaying stem and a bigger problem in five years.
- Accepting a quote where clearance and disposal are 'extra': the brash from one mature tree fills a lot of space.
## How we do it, our five-step process

- Step 1

### Free site visit and inspection
Daniel comes out, looks at the tree, the target zone underneath it and the access route in and out. No charge, no obligation, and no pressure to book on the spot.

- Step 2

### Assessment and written quote
You get a clear price for the work described, including clearance, plus an honest view on whether the tree needs to come out at all or whether a reduction would solve the problem.

- Step 3

### Permissions checked
We check whether the tree is protected by a TPO or sits in a Conservation Area. Where an application is needed, we handle it in-house and deal with the council on your behalf.

- Step 4

### Sectional dismantling
On the day, the site is set up, drop zones are agreed, and the tree is taken down in controlled sections, rigged over anything that cannot be moved, cut and lowered rather than dropped.

- Step 5

### Clear-up and sign-off
Brash is chipped on site and recycled for biomass, timber is removed or left cut to size if you want it, the ground is raked off, and we walk the job with you before we leave.

## What you get out of it

### Speed
Most domestic removals are a single-day job, set up and cleared within our 6am to 10pm working window, with no return visits for waste.

### Safety
Qualified climber, all relevant certificates held by the team, rigging rather than dropping, and public liability cover up to £5 million with details available on request.

### Protection of what stays
Fences, patios, planting, sheds, greenhouses and lawns are worked around deliberately, not hoped around.

### Cost control
One visit covers felling, stump grinding where you want it and disposal, so there is no second contractor and no skip hire to arrange.

### Reliability
Daniel is on site and on the phone, so the person who quoted the work is the person doing it and answering for it.

### A usable garden again
Light back in the rooms that lost it, a lawn that will actually grow, and ground you can re-turf, plant or pave over.

## Tree Removals in detail

### How a sectional removal actually works
A climber ascends the stem on rope and harness, or works from a ladder and rope system where the tree allows, and removes the crown from the outside in. Small branch material is cut free-fall into an agreed drop zone. Anything heavy enough to break what is underneath is rigged: a rope runs through a pulley high in the tree, the section is tied off, cut, and lowered under control by a groundsman on friction. That is the difference between a tidy removal over a conservatory and an expensive afternoon.

Once the crown is off, the stem comes down in rings, sized so they can be handled and rolled out rather than dragged across a lawn. Where there is genuine open space and no target beneath, straight felling with a hinge and wedges is faster and perfectly safe, but it is a decision made on site, not assumed in advance.

- Sectional dismantling in tight gardens, over conservatories, sheds and boundary fences
- Roadside and driveway removals with cones and basic traffic management
- Rigging and lowering for heavy limbs above buildings or planting
- Straight felling where space and ground conditions allow
- Stump grinding at the same visit, or the stump cut flush and left

### Species, ground conditions and what changes the job
Species matters more than people expect. Ash and sycamore are common across Merseyside and West Lancashire and are usually straightforward, though ash dieback changes how a tree behaves under a climber and often pushes the work towards a different method. Willow and poplar are heavy, wet and brittle. Conifers and leylandii are light per section but throw enormous volumes of brash. Eucalyptus is unpredictable timber. Mature oak and beech are dense, heavy and slow.

Ground conditions decide access. A rear garden reached only through a standard gateway is a different job from a front garden the chipper can be reversed up to. Soft winter ground on a new-build estate needs boards and care; a stone yard does not. All of this is looked at during the free visit, which is why the quote you get is for your site rather than a rate card.

### Residential and commercial removals
Domestic work makes up most of what we do, gardens in Knowsley, Huyton, Prescot, St Helens, Ormskirk, Maghull, Skelmersdale and across Liverpool. The priority there is the property: light, drains, roofs, boundaries and the neighbour's patience.

Commercial work runs differently. We have subcontracted for council contractors and have experience working in Conservation Areas and on sites with SSSI designations, where the constraints are written down before anyone turns up. For businesses, that usually means agreed working hours, a clear method, insurance details up front and a site left safe and open for trade the same day.

### Protected trees, TPOs and Conservation Areas
A Tree Preservation Order makes it an offence to cut down, top, lop or uproot a tree without written consent from the council, and Conservation Areas carry a notification requirement of their own. Fines for getting this wrong are significant, and 'the contractor didn't say' is not a defence for the tree owner.

We check the status of a tree as part of quoting, and where an application or notification is required we prepare and submit it in-house. That includes describing the works properly, which is often the difference between consent and a refusal. It adds time to the start of a job, not cost to the felling.

## Tree Removals, your questions answered

### How much does tree removal cost?
There is no fixed price list, because access, size, species and disposal change every job; a 30ft conifer at the front of a house and the same tree behind a locked back gate are not the same piece of work. The site visit and the written quote are free and carry no obligation.

### How long does it take?
Most domestic removals are done inside a day, including chipping and clearing. Large or awkward trees with limited access can run to two days, and you will be told which before you book.

### Do I need permission to remove a tree?
You might. If the tree is covered by a Tree Preservation Order or stands in a Conservation Area, consent or notification is required first. We check before quoting and submit the application for you where one is needed.

### Do you take the stump out as well?
If you want it gone, yes; we grind stumps out below ground level so you can re-turf, plant or pave over the spot. It can be done at the same visit or booked separately.

### What happens to all the waste?
It is chipped on site as we work and recycled for biomass. Nothing goes to landfill, and clearance is included as standard rather than charged as an extra.

### Are you insured?
Yes, fully insured with public liability cover up to £5 million, details available on request.

### Do you offer an emergency call-out at 3am?
We do not advertise a 24/7 service, because we would rather be straight with you than make a promise we cannot keep. We work 6am to 10pm, seven days, and respond quickly to dangerous trees within those hours.

### Will the machinery damage my lawn or driveway?
Access is planned at the site visit precisely to avoid that. Sections are rigged and lowered rather than dropped, boards are used on soft ground, and the site is raked off before we leave.

### Can you remove a tree close to my house or a neighbour's property?
Yes, and that is the normal case rather than the exception. Tight removals over roofs, fences and conservatories are handled by rigging every section down under control.

### Do you work for businesses as well as homeowners?
Yes. We work for local commercial and residential customers and have subcontracted for council contractors, including work in Conservation Areas and on SSSI sites.
